The Federal government customs department says our motorized vehicles are not toys. They are classified under the harmonized tariff code of 8703.21 or 8711 which is "Motor Vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons" or "Motorcycles". We agree with the federal government customs department - They are Not Toys. No one under the age of 13 should operate these motorized vehicles.

As of February 10th, Wildfire Motors does not sell any ATV's or Dirtbikes intended for anyone under the age of 13.

It became illegal Tuesday (2/10) to sell off-road machines geared for children younger than 12 because parts in them contain lead at levels greater than 600 parts per million. Most motor vehicles have such parts. Congress tightened lead limits on children's products last summer after a series of discoveries of dangerous lead levels in toys, and the rules took partial effect last week when a judge nixed a 12-month reprieve while the Consumer Products Safety Commission finalizes them.

The surging cost of gasoline and a desire for a greener commute are turning more people to electric bikes as an unconventional form of transportation. They function like a typical two-wheeler but with a battery-powered assist, and bike dealers, riders and experts say they are flying off the racks. Gluskin-Townley Group, which does market research for the National Bicycle Dealers Association, estimates 10,000 electric bikes were sold in the U.S. in 2007, up from 6,000 in 2006 Most models have a motorcycle-like throttle that gives a boost while going up hills or accelerating from a stop. On some models, the motor kicks in automatically and adjusts its torque based on how hard the rider pedals. Although regulations vary by state, federal law classifies electric bikes as bicycles, and no license or registration is required as long as they don't go faster than 20 mph and their power doesn't exceed 750 watts. The popularity is partly due to imports from China, where manufacturers are making very affordable models. Price largely determines weight, quality and battery type.
